The team consists of 4 aero-mechanical engineering students from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and 2 mechanical engineering students from the University of Oviedo in Gijon, Spain. All group members worked on this project as a requirement for masters of engineering degrees at their respective universities. Students from Scotland were allowed to conduct the group project in Spain as part of the ERASMUS exchange program.

Lewis Hunter
Aero-Mechanical Engineering University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Project Coordinator, Mechanics & Gearing Design I am 5th year masters student from Glasgow, Scotland. While studying in Gijon I assumed the role of project manager and was responsible for the design calculations and the project planning. I enjoyed his time in Gijon learning and working at a different university working on a different type of project from normal. When not at university I enjoyed playing football with the other Erasmus Students and running. Michael Clarke
Mechanical Engineering University of Strathclyde CAD modelling, concept design, FEA, video editing. I had a great time in Gijón: not only with the elevator project, but also while taking in the amazing culture and social life in Asturias. The project we undertook was challenging in a number of ways. With emphasis on good project management as well as problem solving and ingenuity, the project was a good test of our previous learning at Strathclyde. The Gijón campus was a great place to undertake our project with good facilities, helpful lecturers and as much ‘cafe con leche’ as you can drink. I gained considerable experience with the HP Designjet 3D printer, SolidWorks softare package and workshop tool experience. I also learned a lot about efficient and effective team working. Aero-Mechanical Engineering University of Strathclyde Control System Design & Manufacturing My role within the project was to design and manufacture the electronic control systems for full automation of the prototypes. This allowed me to work on a subject I had not previously studied and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. My time in Gijon, when outside of the lab, was spent cycling, surfing and enjoying the delicious local cidre Gijon had to offer. Craig Miller
Aero-Mechanical Engineering University of Strathclyde CAD Modelling & Workshop Expert During this project, I focused my time on the CAD design of the prototypes where I developed my skills in SolidWorks and managed the printing of the 3D parts. I also spent considerable time in the workshop on the manufacture side of the project due to having previously worked as a mechanic. Outwith of the university, I spent considerable time exploring the surrounding areas on my mountain bike and learning to surf. Cynthia Fortez
